Chengdu, with a long history of over 2300 years since the city's establishment, was one of China's first 24 cities given the status of famous historical and cultural cities by the State Council. Chengdu, called "Land of Abundance", has a vast expansion of fertile land and rich produce.
Since 500 B. C. when Kaiming 5th, King of Shu Kingdom "moved from Guangdu Fanxiang and established capital here", Chengdu had ever been a governmental office-site for district, prefecture, province or region in ancient times; since the Yuan Dynasty, Chengdu has been the capital of Sichuan.
Chengdu could also be called the ancient capital of 6 dynasties, where, one after another, King Kaiming of ancient Shu Kingdom, Gong Shunshu of Donghan Period, Liubei of Three-kingdom Period, Li Te of Dongjin Sixteen-kingdom Period, the earlier King Wang Jian and the later King Meng Zhixiang of Shu Kingdom in Wudai Period founded their kingdoms and established capitals. Also, Chengdu has, since an-cient times, been a commercial metropolis with extensive communication with the home and abroad.
In the Han Dynasty, Chengdu was one of national top 5 metropolises; in the Tang Dynasty, it enjoyed honorable endorsement by saying " Yangzhou is the first and Chengdu is the second "; in the Beisong Period, it was a metropolis second only to Bianzhou.
