The first "foreigner community" in western China, the Tianfu International Community, is being built in the high-tech district of Chengdu, and will be completed in October 2010. When finished, the community will be able to accommodate over 5,000 foreigners and offer top-quality living and services such as churches, bilingual kindergartens and western-style hospitals all within the community.
The Tianfu International Community occupies 160 mu of land, and its total floor area is 250,000 square meters. The community will be a high-quality international community containing residential buildings, shopping streets, international bilingual kindergartens and churches.
In the community, Chengdu's first community church and first villa group will be constructed. The entire project is divided into the first-phase construction, the second-phase construction and the construction of the 3 districts of the commercial Tiexiangshui Street. The first-phase construction will be completed and operational in October 2010.
By the end of 2009, the total number of foreigners living in Chengdu coming from over 130 countries and regions as well as the people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had reached around 20,000, and is still increasing.
Tang Jiqiang, director of the community's development planning bureau, said that today's trend for Chengdu to become an international and modern city is irreversible. It is just a matter of time. People with different skin colors, languages and cultures, and various types of multinational companies and institutions are moving to Chengdu, marking the excellent development opportunities and prospects that the community enjoys against the backdrop of the global economic structural adjustments and industry transfers. Tang added, "We are confident that the Tianfu International Community will be attractive to foreigners as it is the first large quality international community in central and western China."
