Tailor & Costume Street in Chengdu is a great spot for tailor-made clothing and fun costume shopping. The rumor of the ability to buy cheap, but good quality suits, formal wear, etc in China is in fact true. Even travelers who don't speak a word of Chinese should not be worried about the language barrier.

Qing Shi Qiao Art, Flower, and Pet Market
Address: Xinkai Jie and Nanfu Jie
Close to the city center, Qing Shi Qiao market offers an unusual mixture of goods. The middle of Xinkai Jie is home to a two-story art market featuring a variety of wood, stone, and porcelain crafts and sculpture, calligraphy and landscape paintings, jade stamps, and Buddha figures. There are a number of flower shops along Xinkai Jie, including some which sell cacti.

Women's Market

Literally translated as 'Women's Street', a women's market is a more suitable description. Located in the heart of the central business district, across the street from Ran Fang Jie and close to ChunXi Lu, the winding halls of the market are perfect for the ravenous female shopper. Any kind of clothing accessory, jewelry, or style of young women's fashion can be found here.

Song Xian Qiao Art City
Address: At corner of Qingyang Shangjie and Huanhua Beilu
Just outside the west 1st ring road is Chengdu's largest art market, Songxianqiao Art City. Local foreigners and travelers alike will be able to find whatever it is they are looking for here. However, the market is not cheap and a shopkeeper will obviously try to milk a foreigner for as much as he or she can.

METRO Cash & Carry

The German owned METRO cash & carry superstore has landed in Chengdu. They offer wholesale (bulk) goods, including many Western brand products. Those with families or teachers and students living in Chengdu could certainly consider stocking up on preferred goods at METRO.

Swedish DIY home furnishing giant IKEA has arrived in Chengdu, and local citizens have welcomed the mega-store with open arms. Customers lined up hours in advance to prepare for the grand opening of the store. Locals are impressed with the workmanship on IKEA goods while foreign residents are at least pleased with the prices.

Computer City extends the entire way between Kehua Beilu and Renmin Nanlu on the south 1st ring road. At either end of the street there are large electronics department stores selling absolutely anything having to do with computers, cameras, and cell phones.

Tucked in a back alley of Chengdu's bustling business district, you can find a taste of true Chinese culture at the Ran Fang Jie street market. Around the corner you will find plenty of familiar Western brand names. However, if you wish to practice your bargaining skills and find the cheap goods that China is famous for, then empty your backpack and head here.
